Inception- My take

When was the last time you came out of a film wishing you could go back in and watch it again immediately so the excitement in your stomach stays longer? Christopher Nolan’s Inception is something you’ll love or passionately despise. While watching Inception, you are not just a viewer, you are a participant. Nolan makes you work on his masterpiece. He gives you one puzzle at a time to solve and by the time you are done with it; next puzzle is on its way. Watching Inception is something like working in some psychological gymnasium.

Plot of the movie is complicated and couldn’t be explained in 4-5 lines. Still in short the movie revolves around the process of dream sharing. Dom Cobb played by Lionardo DiCaprio is a subconscious thief who job is to extract ideas from subjects mind when he’s in sleep. Arthur played by Joseph Gordan-Levitt is his right hand man helping him in every case. These men are hired by Saito played by Ken Watanabe to ‘plant’ an idea in his business rival Robert Fitcher played by Cillian Murphy rather than extracting one. Now most of the movie’s plot is explained in the conversation between Ariadne ‘the architect’ played by Ellen Page and Cobb. Other one’s in the team includes Eames ‘the forger’ and Yusuf ‘the chemist’. Mal played by Marion Cotillard is Cobb’s dead wife who has the irritating habit of showing up after every 10 mins.

Movie’s first half lays the routes for next roller coaster ride. It is spent illustrating how Dom's job works: how he extracts dreams and ideas from people's heads, and what exactly the process involves. You're introduced to the concept of multiple levels and layers within the subconscious (meaning dreams within dreams within dreams), and you're familiarized with the rules by which this virtual-reality world works -- such as what happens if you die in a dream, the nature of dream time v/s real time, and the dangers of layering elaborate dreams within dreams.

Second half of Inception is speechless. In simple words it’s the most amazing thing watched on the screen after a long time. A piece of advice, don’t buy popcorn or colddrink in interval, you will be glued to all the onscreen drama that they’ll just rot by the chair for next hour.

Inception has no genre. It can be counted as a sci-fi when it comes to its visual effects effect. The zero-g fight sequence with Joseph Gordan-Levitt is jaw dropping. It can be counted as a psychological thriller when it comes to its plot. All the explosions combat and gun fights make it an action movie too. The chase sequence shot on the streets of Buchama will refresh your memory of Jason Bourne action in shot in Tangier. But above all it’s a love story. How? I leave it to you to solve. But the real fun comes at the end. He gives you his toughest puzzle in last minute and ask you to solve it.

You cant just give credit to one person here. Nolan has taken some of the finest actors to make his ‘dream project’. After ‘Shutter island’ Leonardo again proves that he is a first rate actor. Among others Joseph Gordan-Levitt and Ellen Page has don e a perfect job. You have strong background score and sound effects. But above all you have a amazing script and beautiful direction. You can always trust a Chris Nolan film but this time it’s beyond imagination.

Will it beat The Dark Knight record? Cant say. Movie is too good to be a global success. Its complexity might work against it. If you don’t like all the complicated twists, stay away from it. Miss it for a second and you wont even follow the tracks for next 10 mins. Every single scene from the movie is important somehow. Nolan demands you to draw your own conclusions, you own ideas. He makes you work but rewards you handsomely. You might feel exhausted at the end but in a good way.

My Ratings-4.5 out of 5.

Watch it. You will talk about it for weeks.
